UFC 256 is adding a clash of the heavyweights on their card. Former heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos looks to halt his slide down the rankings in a fight against rising contender Ciryl Gane. Gane is undefeated in his 6 professional MMA fights. However, JDS boasts a 21-8 professional record. There is a 23-fight experience gap between the pair.

JDS lost his last three fights to top heavyweights. It started with a loss against Francis Ngannou, which was followed by a loss to Curtis Blaydes. After the Blaydes loss, JDS took on Jairzinho Rozenstruik, fresh off a loss against Ngannou, and would lose to him as well.
Gane is returning to the Octagon after almost a year. He is 3-0 in the UFC, winning two via submission and one via decision. This is a massive step up for Gane, who hasn’t faced anyone even close to JDS’s level. JDS, on the other hand, is taking a massive risk by fighting Gane, who doesn’t help his rise up the rankings much with his sparse record.

UFC 256 is currently scheduled to be the last PPV of 2020 and will be headlined by Amanda Nunes and Megan Anderson fighting over Nunes’s Featherweight title. It was originally headlined by Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman facing Gilbert Burns, but Usman had to pull out of the fight.

UFC 256 stacking up?
Considering the initial main event fell through, the UFC is under pressure to add something to this card. Nunes is a delight to watch inside the cage but hasn’t had a massive casual fanbase. However, one can’t complain about a fight card headlined by the greatest women’s fighter in UFC history.

But whether the UFC be able to sell this as the main event of the last PPV of this year is a different question. You also have Petr Yan defending his Bantamweight title against Aljamain Sterling on the card. However, losing their planned main event with Kamaru Usman will affect the sales of this card.

The rest of the card sees the likes of Jacare Souza returning to the cage. Angela Hill, Tecia Torres, Marvin Vettori, and Amanda Ribas are some other big names on the card.
