VIDEO: An Emotional Lerone Murphy Dedicates Unanimous Decision Win to His Late Grandmother

UFC Fight Island 8 is the second of 3 events taking place this week at Fight Island in Abu Dhabi. In the second fight on the main card, Lerone Murphy took on a tough adversary in Douglas Silva de Andrade.

The Miracle’ secured an impressive unanimous decision win to extend his win streak to 2-0 in the UFC. Both men are unranked at featherweight at the moment.

If Murphy is able to keep up this level of performance and secure a few more wins under his belt, it will not be long before he is amongst the Top-15 in the division.

Lerone Murphy makes starts 2021 off on the right foot

In the post-fight interview, Daniel Cormier asked ‘The Miracle’ if he felt he was aggressive enough during the fight. Lerone replied, “Nah, not aggressive enough. I feel like I should have done better than that but, It is what it is.

“It’s a tough season. First, let me just say alhamdulillah firstly. And then, I’ll say I’ve had a tough travel. I watched my Nana’s funeral from my phone screen in the quarantine so, that wasn’t nice so I dedicate that win to my Nana.”

D’Silva’ came into the fight on the back of an impressive win over former bantamweight champion Renan Barao. Though Douglas had his moments during the fight, the English fighter did enough to convince the judges to score all 3 rounds in his favor. 

Over the course of the fight, Murphy landed an impressive tally of 60 strikes with an accuracy of 46%. He also landed 48 significant strikes with an accuracy of 42%. What’s more, he even secured 1 of 4 attempted takedowns.

With a win over ‘D’Silva’ Murphy has now secured 2 wins on the trot after a draw in his UFC debut against Zubaira Tukhugov.

Murphy joins a talent stacked featherweight division and has his work cut out for him if he wants to break into the Top-15 and eventually challenge for the title one day. Whatever said and done, he is certainly on the right path.
