Dustin, on the other hand, was an established star in the featherweight division. McGregor’s win over ‘The Diamond’ shifted his perception from a ‘prospect’ to a bonafide star. Six years on a lot has changed; however, both men remain among the best in their new division.

The fight comes a little over a year after the last time Conor fought in the octagon. He started off 2020 with a stunning 40-second knockout over ‘Cowboy’. Following his win, ‘The Notorious’ vowed to stay incredibly active in 2020.

However, the pandemic and tussles with the UFC regarding dates for his next fight frustrated McGregor, to a point where he announced his retirement from the sport once again.

The fight against Poirier is an ideal fight for ‘The Notorious’. This is because ‘The Diamond’ is a familiar opponent and is someone who makes sense considering his pursuit of lightweight gold.

A win against Dustin Poirier would put him in prime position to fight for the title once again, subject to what the UFC and Khabib Nurmagomedov have planned next.

Dustin, on the other hand, will have a chance to avenge his loss and face a big name in Conor which will definitely juice up his purse. A win against ‘The Notorious’ will move him to 2-0 since losing to Khabib at UFC 242.
