The UFC kicked off the new year with UFC Fight Island 7. The main card started off with a brilliant fight between Dusko Todorovic and Punahele Soriano. Subsequently, one of the breakout stars from 2020, Joaquin Buckley, took on Italian fighter, Alessio Di Chirico. Given that both men were heavy hitters, there was reason to believe that the fight would not go the distance.

It took Di Chirico less than one round to put an end to a three-fight skid and to secure an impressive win over a dangerous knockout artist in ‘New Mansa’.

Alessio Di Chirico bounces back to the win column with a stunning win

The fight started off well for both men. ‘New Mensa’ applied pressure early and tried to land a few bombs. However, ‘Manzo’ avoided a charging Buckley and evaded well. He attempted a few check hooks as Joaquin was rushing in, but could not time it perfectly.

‘Manzo’ was backing away towards the fence when he threw a perfectly timed kick. His shin met with Buckley’s head just as he was ducking down. As soon as his kick connected, Buckley was unconscious, and the referee jumped in before ‘Manzo’ could inflict any more damage.

‘New Mansa’ blew up after his stunning spinning kick knockout last year. Unfortunately, this time around he was on the receiving end of a well-timed kick.

This is the first fight ‘Manzo’ has won since July 2018, when he beat Julian Marquez. The Italian fighter succumbed to three losses against the likes of Kevin Holland, Makhmud Muradov, and Zak Cummings.

This is arguably the best performance of his UFC career, as he may have just secured his future in the company by avoiding a fourth successive defeat. Moreover, he will look to build on his performance tonight, secure a few wins in 2021, and work his way up into the rankings.
