Jack Hermansson will take on Marvin Vettori in the main event at UFC Vegas 16. The pair will meet at 185 pounds. Vettori will be the first-ever Italian born fighter to headline a card in the company’s history. This is the third opponent lined up for Jack Hermansson this weekend after fights against Till and Holland were called off.
Hermanson is currently ranked fourth in the division, whereas Vettori is ranked #13. A win against Jack would propel ‘The Italian Dream‘ into the top 10. Whereas, for ‘The Joker’ a win over Vettori would put him closer to a title shot.
Ahead of the fight, we take a look at which fighter can claim the win.
‘The Joker‘ made his UFC debut in September 2016 with a unanimous decision win over Scott Askham. He then succumbed to a submission loss against Cezar Ferreira. Since then, Hermansson has pieced together a couple of impressive runs of victories. However, untimely losses have derailed his title shot hopes. He won his last fight against Kelvin Gastelum via submission.
‘The Italian Dream’ on the other hand made his UFC debut in August 2016 with a submission win over Alberto Pereira; he is currently on a three-fight win streak. In his last fight, he beat Karl Roberson.
Jack has secured 52% of his wins via T/KO. Going into the fight, he will have a one-inch height advantage and a 3.5-inch reach advantage. Despite having secured many of his wins via T/KO, he is extremely good on the ground as well.
Vettori on the other hand has secured 60% of his wins via submission. He has only two T/KO victories to his name in his career. Therefore, it is obvious where he would like to keep the fight.
In the UFC, ‘The Italian Dream’ has landed an impressive 4.05 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy of 41%. He averaged 1.43 Takedowns per minute with an accuracy of 45% and 0.63 submissions per 15 minutes.
‘The Joker’ landed an impressive 4.9 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy of 56% in the UFC. He averaged 2.38 takedowns per 15 minutes and 0.89 submissions per 15 minutes. However, it will not be easy to take down ‘The Italian Dream’ given that he has a takedown defense of 80%.
Given that Jack Hermansson is more well-rounded in every area, he should be able to secure his second victory of 2020.
Prediction: Jack Hermansson via TKO.
