UFC Hall Of Famer Mark Coleman Hospitalized Following An Heart Attack

Mark Coleman is not a name most MMA fans are familiar with. ‘The Hammer’ is a pioneer in the sport and was the first heavyweight champion of the UFC. Coleman was known as an exciting fighter who rarely let the fight go the distance. He has secured 44% of his wins via T/KO and 31% via submission.
The UFC inducted ‘The Hammer‘ into the Hall of Fame for his contributions not only to the heavyweight division but also the UFC as an organization, he was the fifth man to achieve this honor. Seven years on from his last fight as a professional, Coleman took to social media to update fans about his recent health conditions.

Mark Coleman reveals his near-death experience

Coleman opened up on how he forced himself to the hospital and by doing so avoided a near-death experience. His caption read, “I hadn’t been feeling so well for quite some time something hit pretty hard Tuesday about 7:00 pm chest locked up my arms went numb sounds pretty obvious but I didn’t want to believe . I walked around and laid down for about 6 hours it didn’t get better I texted my daughters I didn’t want to go wasn’t fair to them so I grabbed my keys made it to the hospital for sure there was nothing wrong but yes there was complete…”
The Hammer continued, “…blockage of a major artery if I don’t go I’m probably not here today I’m so glad I went I have so many things I want to do . Tomorrow they will try to break through the artery and put a stent in for the first time in a long time I am motivated I am great full and appreciate all your support it wasn’t my time it’s time to live”

Coleman was one of the first men to resort to ‘Ground and pound’. ‘The Hammer’ was an extremely decorated wrestler. He was an NCAA Division 1 gold medallist and a multiple time Pan-American gold medallist in freestyle wrestling.

Mark Coleman won the inaugural UFC heavyweight belt at UFC 12 against Dan Severn. He subsequently lost the belt to Maurice Smith. ‘The Hammer’ is a multiple organization champion and has fought some of the best to have ever done it. Don Frye, Fedor Emelianenko, Mirko ‘Cro Cop’, Randy Couture to name a few.
