Anderson Silva and retirement; Conor McGregor gives his thoughts

Leading up to his fight, many fans and pundits alike felt that Silva was past his prime, and retirement would be the best option for the Brazilian fighter. However, Conor McGregor disagreed. ‘The Notorious’ replied to a Tweet by a fan and provided his thoughts on Anderson’s performance and potential retirement.

McGregor wrote, “Sad to see tonight, but I say keep going! Real fighters never lose that fire so why try to force it out? Simply put time into finding the correct competition and continue on. The right competition is out there, for all levels and ages. Find it and do what you love to do! Forever!”

Conor holds a completely different point of view as compared to the majority of the fans and pundits. Silva is on a three-fight skid and has won just one of his last nine fights. At 45, age is not on his side either. ‘The Spider’ has achieved everything possible in the sport, and retirement seems apt now.

In the post-fight press conference, Silva hinted at this being possibly his last fight in the UFC. However, he has not confirmed that he will be retiring. The Brazilian fighter has one more fight left on his UFC contract.

Dana White has stated that he will not let Silva fight again. Furthermore, he admitted that letting him fight tonight was a big mistake on his part. Therefore, it does not look like another fight in the UFC is on the cards.
