Khabib Nurmagomedov has accomplished almost everything he set out to do in the sport of mixed martial arts. However, there is still one goal that eludes him. The crown for the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world is held by Jon Jones.

Khabib shocked the world when he announced that he would be retiring from the sport, following his win against Justin Gaethje. However, in his post-fight interview at UFC 254, he mentioned that the only thing he wants from the UFC. ‘The Eagle’ wants to be placed as the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world ahead of Jon Jones.

Khabib Nurmagomedov is set to overthrow Jon Jones. 

Eric Kowal of My MMA News put out a tweet that read, “According to new #UFC rankings, #KhabibNurmagomedov moves into the Number 1 Pound-4-Pound slot, and #JonJones moves down to number 2.”

After the fight at UFC 254, fans and pundits alike joined Khabib in making a case for him being the pound-for-pound best. However, ‘Bones’ did not take that well as he took to Twitter to make his case.

Both men make an excellent case for being number one in the rankings. Khabib is 29-0 in his career.  He has two rounds in the UFC.  The win against Justin Gaethje was his third title defense and fourth championship fight in the UFC.

Jon Jones holds the record for being the youngest champion in the UFC. Despite his transgressions outside the octagon, Jon remains, to this date, one of the best fighters to have ever set foot in the octagon. He holds a host of records in the UFC and the light heavyweight division.

‘Bones’ has the most title fights in UFC history with 14. He is also on a 13 fight win streak. The American fighter also holds records for the most wins, most fights, most significant strikes landed, total strikes landed, and many more in the light heavyweight division. 

Will the ‘GOAT’ debate ever be settled?

Both men are extremely accomplished in their respective divisions and rights. There will always be a difference between fans and pundits alike as to who is number one.

One thing that can not be debated is both men have displayed insane skills inside the octagon and have brought immense excitement and inspiration to many around the world
