The loss against Vicente Luque at UFC 265 left Michael Chiesa so dejected that he headed straight out of the arena without having a second thought. The ‘Maverick’ saw his 4 fight winning streak snapped as ‘The Silent Assassin’ used the brabo choke in round one to march onto his welterweight title aspirations.

In a video surfacing online, we could see UFC supremo Dana White congratulating Luque on his win. The video then focuses on Chiesa, who could be seen marching out of the arena despite being requested to stop. The ‘Maverick’ headed straight into the parking lot.

Their match started with a couple of exchanges on the feet. Chiesa attempted for a takedown early in Round 1 and was successful in his quest. From there, he proceeded to Luque’s back and worked for a rear-naked choke.

The ‘Maverick’ then went for a neck crank, but then again switched to a choke. As Chiesa’s hands were locked around his body, Luque worked away from the body lock and escaped.

Before Chiesa could make his move, Luque grabbed onto his neck. The ‘Maverick’ immediately fell into the D’Arce choke trap, which also is Luque’s signature submission. From there, Luque torqued and Chiesa had no other alternative but to tap.

This was the first loss for Chiesa since his move to the 170lbs division. More than anything, he would be disappointed for not being able to finish the fight when he had Luque’s neck in his hand.

What Michael Chiesa said after his loss?

Shortly after his loss, Chiesa took to social media and released a statement. He detailed how he cracked under the pressure. “To say I’m embarrassed is an understatement,” Chiesa wrote. “Physically I was in the best shape of my life, mentally I was battling myself every single day. I put too much pressure on myself this fight and I cracked.”

“Historically, throughout my career, every time I have faced adversity and came up short, I’ve turned around and grown tremendously. A couple more wins and I’ll be back in the mix,” he added.
