Kevin Holland returned to action for the third time this year for a tough assignment against Kyle Daukaus. Leading up to the contest, a lot of focus was on Holland and his wrestling skills, which he said he had been working on in preparation for the fight.
Given he had secured 80% of his wins via submission going into the fight, Daukaus was a perfect fight for Holland to test his improvements in the wrestling department.

The fight started as most and pundits alike would have expected. Daukaus immediately shot for a takedown and tried to test Holland’s wrestling defense. However, this time around, Holland was able to stay on his feet and did not succumb to the very first takedown attempt by his opponent. As the fight progressed, Holland was able to display the improvement in his game a lot better, until an unfortunate headbutt ended the fight for him.
A bizarre end to the fight between Kevin Holland and Kyle Daukaus
During the first round itself, Kevin Holland and Kyle Daukaus clashed heads as they were throwing punches. As soon as they clashed heads, Holland immediately hit the floor and was out for a brief period of time. At this point, Daukaus pounced on his opponent and almost had a guillotine choke secured on the ground.

Following a few scrambles, Daukaus was able to secure the back and sink in a rear-naked choke to which Holland tapped. After the fight was stopped, the referee, Dan Miragliotta, along with the athletic commission, reviewed the accidental headbutt. Following a lot of deliberation, it was decided to call the bout a no-contest because of the headbutt.

Jon Anik shared his take on the issue at hand.
Wow. Upon review, it goes into the books as a no-contest. Daukaus looks kinda pissed. Hard to blame him, but I think this is prolly the right call. Glad it's not my call. More Monday –> @AnikFlorianPod @kennyflorian

Daniel Cormier and Kenny Florian shared their take on the matter.
Flo fighters fight bro, we’re trained, we get hurt we fight. Unfortunately the blow that hurt was a unintentional clash of heads. Last week merab was knocked out but kept going. Difference is he got hit with legal shot. Kyle did what he was supposed to do and won but illegal. https://t.co/2ywQQyxXOJ
