Anderson Silva is one of the greatest MMA practitioners to enter an octagon. He has the second-most title defenses in UFC history, from when he reigned as their middleweight king. While his career since he lost the title hasn’t been the best, Anderson Silva will always be revered in the sport.

An opportunity to learn from the Spider is something every mixed martial artist would dream of. That dream came true for a YouTuber called Simeon Panda. Panda has a fitness challenge and recently put up a video of Silva teaching him the basics of MMA.

Silva began by showing Panda how to throw basic three-strike combinations. They started with a right arm jab-left elbow-body knee drill. Silva moved forward and showed Panda about how to utilize his jab. He revealed that a jab should be to the chest and not the chin to limit forward movement.

‘The Spider’ went on and taught Panda how to slip punches and have effective counter-striking. He added another nugget of knowledge by showing Panda his trademark side leg kicks as well as the body roundhouse kicks. Silva dropped a valuable nugget of wisdom as well.

He said, “The focus is not to hurt people. Its to understand the skill, the martial arts philosophy and you control your body because its the same way when you train with weights. It’s not about taking and ugh, you have the whole technique for 100 percent.”

Anderson Silva is imparting knowledge to new fighters

While the YouTuber Silva worked with isn’t an MMA fighter, many MMA fighters would find this information valuable. The 45-year-old is an icon of the sport and any knowledge he dispenses is invaluable. Any fighter who has had proper training would be familiar with the basic techniques Silva demonstrates, but it is still very cool to see him teach those himself.
