WATCH: Conor McGregor Arrives in Style as Khabib Nurmagomedov Also Reaches Fight Island

Conor McGregor is returning to the cage after a year away from the sport. While Conor did expect to be active in 2020, the pandemic scuppered those plans. Now he is returning to rematch old rival Dustin Poirier to re-establish himself as a championship fighter in the UFC.

However, the mystique around Mystic Mac has only increased. He is a genuine superstar that is going to return to the cage, and the hype for his return is palpable. The main question around him right now is whether he is in the correct headspace to fight an elite contender like Poirier. The confidence with which he entered the Fight Island hotel shows that this McGregor may be as dangerous as ever.

Conor entered with his child, Conor Jr. Many may have forgotten that Conor had announced a hiatus from the sport in 2016 because his girlfriend Dee Devlin was pregnant at the time. Can McGregor channel the positive energy from being a father into the cage?

Conor McGregor: Can he get past Dustin Poirier?

Conor McGregor is easily the most dangerous fighter that Poirier could fight. A win here would legitimize either man as a championship contender. While Poirier is the number one contender on the rankings, a win over Conor will only solidify that position. McGregor is McGregor, so he will always be just one high-profile win away from the rankings.

The first minute of the fight will be the key. We saw Conor likes to push the pace from the opening bell onwards, while Dustin is the kind of fighter that needs to get his feet warm in the cage. The longer the fight goes, the better Poirier’s chances are.

However, there is a lot of intrigue in Conor’s conditioning heading into the fight. Maybe McGregor has discovered a way he can push the pace in a fight for 5 rounds. If that does end up being the case, it will be a hard night for Dustin. However, we do believe Dustin is the more-rounded fighter and is a genuine threat to Conor. This is an amazing fight, and millions will definitely be tuning in.
