Alexandr Romanov vs Marcos Lima was the second last fight on the prelim card at UFC Vegas 13. The fight was an interesting matchup between two exciting prospects at heavyweight. The card has been extremely entertaining, and no fight has gone the distance thus far.

Stylistically the fight was an interesting clash between a grappler and a striker. Romanov secured 62% of his wins via submission; ‘Pezao’ secured 71% of his wins via T/KO. However, it took Romanov less than a round to impose his ground game and submit Lima.

Alexandr Romanov secured a win via an incredibly crafty forearm choke

Both men started off the fight well. However, it was Lima who was more aggressive early on with his striking. He was able to land a few good punches, however; they did not inflict any real damage or put Romanov in danger at any point. 

As the fight went on, ‘King Kong’ secured a few takedowns. The first one was not too effective as Lima got back to his feet quickly.

However, the second time he took ‘Pezao’ down he was able to work through the positions well. He eventually ended up on top of Marcos with his forearm planted right on his opponent’s neck.

As ‘King Kong’ piled on the pressure he choked ‘Pezao’ out unconscious. In the fight, Romanov landed ten strikes with an accuracy of 83%. He also landed six significant strikes with an accuracy of 86%.

Lima on the other hand was more successful with his offense. He landed 27 strikes with a 69% accuracy and 18 significant strikes with 62% accuracy.

Despite early success, Lima couldn’t stuff the takedown and it cost him the fight. Romanov made his debut in UFC debut in September with a submission win over Roque Martinez. He is now 2-0 in the promotion and seems like a real threat at heavyweight.

If ‘King Kong’ is able to dominate his opponents as he has been doing, it will not be long before he is able to secure a rank in the UFC.
