Though it has been a tough year for the UFC to put on fights amidst a pandemic, there have been many positives that have emerged as well. The UFC has put on a show almost every weekend, which meant that a lot of fighters have fought more than they would have this year. Last-minute fight cancelations due to COVID or its implications have meant that a lot of fighters have stepped in last minute to make their UFC debuts as well. Khamzat Chimaev is one such example.
‘Borz’ is arguably one of the many breakout stars of this year. He entered the promotion earlier this year and in just three fights, he has established himself as a big name. His fight style, along with his willingness to fight anyone, anywhere has won him a lot of fans in the UFC.

Khamzat Chimaev to fight again in 2020?
Chimaev was scheduled to fight for the fourth time this year when he was matched up against welterweight contender Leon Edwards. The fight was set to take place on the last fight card of the year. However, a positive test ruled Edwards out of the fight, and ‘Borz’ has not been able to find a replacement since.

However, another breakout star this year, Kevin Holland secured a mind-boggling knockout win over Ronaldo Souza at UFC 256. In his post-fight interview ‘Trailblazer,’ said, “I know my son does not want me to say this right now, but I know Chimaev was supposed to fight December 19th. He fights at 85 and 70. Come back up to 185… I mean I think he should stay at 70. He could be a champion at 170, but if he comes up here to 185, Imma bang that boy up. Imma bang him up Joe.”
Chimaev has been active in two weight classes in his UFC career. However, he is currently ranked #15 in the welterweight division. Focusing on the division where he is ranked right now will help him get to a title shot sooner. Moreover, a win over a bonafide challenger in Leon Edwards will silence the critics who have been saying that he has not faced real competition thus far.
