Petr Yan is as tough as they come. The former UFC champion is one of the best fighters to ever fight in the bantamweight category. The fact that he is ranked as the UFC’s number one contender in the bantamweight category only strengthens this argument. Fighting out of Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia, “no mercy” boasts a stunning professional record of 15-2-0.

No fighter to date has beaten Petr Yan via knockout or submission in his entire career. His lightning-fast striking ability and brilliant takedown combinations make him one of the most lethal fighters to face in the octagon.

Petr Yan’s only loss in the UFC was against the reigning bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling. Sterling AKA the “Funk Master” is regarded as one of the most skilled fighters in the promotion right now. The UFC bantamweight champion currently holds a fighting record of 20 wins and 3 losses in his professional career.

Petr Yan vs Aljamain Sterling: UFC 259

Petr Yan contested at UFC 259 against current bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling. During the fight, both Yan and Sterling displayed remarkable fighting skills, however, Yan seemed to be more controlled and accurate with his attacks than Sterling. The American landed some powerful kicks, but he also missed his target numerous times. And, after being struck/slammed by Yan, he spent much of the battle on his back.

Both fighters delivered significant damage and fought all the way till the fourth round.

In the later rounds, the Russian looked to have the upper hand in the fight. Yan dominated the “Funk Master,” who seemed to be tired and gassed. But then Yan landed an illegal kick to Sterling’s head in the fourth round’s fourth minute. He hit Sterling’s head with his knee while he was down. But Yan did not take his other foot off the ground, which made the move illegal.

Yan was disqualified from the fight as Sterling stayed down, following the knee to the head. Many people believe he pretended to be injured and didn’t get up to walk away with the championship title.
