UFC welterweight elites Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards have engaged themselves in a Twitter battle over a possible matchup later this year. ‘Rocky’ Edwards is currently on a winning spree and is undefeated in his last 10 matches. Meanwhile, Masvidal has succumbed to Kamaru Usman in his last two title fights.

Recently, Masvidal had conducted a lengthy Twitter Q&A with his followers. He addressed many topics, including his possible third matchup with Usman and also a dream fight with Conor McGregor. However, the thing which grabbed the headlines was his return date.

The ‘Gamebred‘ answered one user’s question and wrote, “December or earlier.” Though not convincingly, he answered when someone asked him against whom he wanted to return. He wrote, “Anyone that gets me to the title again. I don’t discriminate.” (via MMA Junkie)

Edwards, who recently fought and won against Nate Diaz, was quick to pounce upon the ‘Gamebred’. He gave his timeline of return and even asked Masvidal to stop giving excuses. “I’ll be ready in November or December. Stop with the excuses,” he wrote.

It didn’t take long for Masvidal to catch this taunt and respond to the Jamaican. The ‘Gamebred’ tried to expose the Jamaican as he pointed out to an interview where Edwards had denied taking a fight against Masvidal later this year.

‘Gamebred’ wrote, “Stop chasing clout you already turned down the fight you little b*tch. You just did an interview saying you don’t want it.”

Immediately after his against Diaz, ‘Rocky’ was confident to get a match for the title next. However, UFC supremo Dana White instead gave a nod for a rematch between Covington and Usman. He also hinted at a matchup between Edwards and Masvidal.

However, Edwards later said that he intends to wait for the title shot instead of facing Masvidal. In an interview, the Jamaican said, “I know they’re talking about Masvidal but I’ve been asking to fight Masvidal f*cking two or three years ago,” he said.

“Like, running him down but he kept turning me down and saying ‘Nah, I don’t want to fight,’ even though the UFC wanted it. Now I feel he’s just been chinned for the world title, I don’t feel I need to do that now. I’ll wait for my title shot. I worked hard to get here, and that’s just more time to plan,” he added.

This could be an exciting matchup though. Both have a brief history as they had a backstage altercation back in 2019 when Masvidal’s assault made Edwards fall to medical attention. It will be interesting if UFC books this match going ahead.
