Former bantamweight champion Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling are at social media loggerheads ever since they met at UFC 259 for bantamweight gold. Their fight ended after Yan landed an illegal knee to Aljamain.

The controversial decision handed Sterling the title, and this was the first time when the title changed hands in UFC over disqualification.

Recently, Yan retweeted the tweet of Sterling where the latter said he can’t wait to slap the s**t out of him. The former champion said, “When? In 2023? Just admit you are terrified to enter the octagon with me again. Your a** is getting stripped, p***y”.

This isn’t all, it is expected that they will have a rematch later this year. Their fight left an unpleasant taste on everyone’s part, be it with fighters or the audience.

Sterling would be eager to add legitimacy to his title hold after the DQ, and Yan would want to claim back his championship. He was dominating before the unfortunate thing happened.

What happened Between Petr Yan and Sterling at UFC 259?

Yan entered the bout as the champ. The bout started with both men being aggressive at the start. It was back-and-forth for both men in the early stages of the fight.

Sterling initially had the upper hand before he started fading away. Yan took control of the fight and dominantly surged ahead over Sterling. However, he ended up landing an illegal knee over Sterling.

The illegal knee forced Yan to be disqualified, and ‘The Funkmaster’ got crowned as the new UFC bantamweight champion, albeit via controversial decision.

The match had several questionable moments. Yan and his team landed in hot waters when several people accused him of intentionally landing the knee. Some questions were raised for Sterling as well for possibly faking his injury and celebrating his DQ victory.

Although, it seems Sterling will be out for a while as possible neck surgery looms around him. But would probably return against Yan, as they have some unfinished business to settle.
