The former light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones took to Twitter to congratulate MMA veteran Glover Teixeira soon after his emphatic win over former title contender Thiago Santos.

Teixeira showed grit and triumphed in the face of Santos’s power to pick up a submission win in the first minute of the third round to grab his fifth straight win.

Earlier, in the lead up to UFC Fight Night: Santos vs Teixeira, Dana White had claimed that UFC is working on a potential super-fight against Israel Adesanya and Jan Blachowicz.

Jan Blachowicz prevailed over Dominick Reyes at UFC 253 with a stoppage win to pick up the light-heavyweight strap. In the process, the Polish powerhouse became the first fighter to hold the light-heavyweight championship other than Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier after almost a decade.

Glover Teixeira deserves a title shot

The 41-year-old veteran has proved to be quite a match for some of the best fighters that the division has to offer. Teixeira took on Corey Anderson in a short-notice bout in a losing affair back in July 2018. The Brazilian fighter has not looked back ever since.

“Dana White man, come on man. I am an old man over here. You are gonna give the shot to Adesanya and make me wait. Come on, man.

“Five fights in a row, beating these young guys. It’s not easy. Give me that title shot man,” Teixeira said in the post-match interview.

Additionally, he has wins over former title contenders in the form of Anthony Smith and Thiago Santos. Needless to say, he deserves a second scrap at the title belt.
