UFC welterweights Court McGee and Claudio Silva will duke it out on the preliminary card for UFC Vegas 27. McGee and Silva are tenured veterans in the organization and continue to push towards undisputed gold late into their career. Both men have faced stiff competition in their runs so far, however, their respective trajectories are rather divergent.

While Claudio Silva was on a 14-fight win streak up until his last fight, Court ‘The Crusher’ McGee is on a downturn. In fact, another loss is likely to signal the end of his UFC run despite facing some high-level combatants. The UFC is constantly overhauling their roster and Court McGee’s skid has damaged his overall title hopes as it stands.

UFC Vegas 27: Court McGee vs Claudio Silva

Court McGee is 19-10 and is 5-1 in his last 6 fights. He’s coming off a loss to Carlos Condit that served as a showcase for ‘The Natural Born Killer’. McGee has faced the likes of Santiago Ponzinibbio and Robert Whittaker, in fact edging a split win over the latter. However, despite a lengthy 17-fight UFC tenure, he’s never been able to put things together.

McGee likes to impose a grind and grit style of fighting that involves shooting into the legs of his opponent. While he’s got a respectable stand up, it proved to be ineffective against decorated strikers like Condit. However, Silva’s ace card lies in his submission and Court McGee will take his chances on the feet.

Claudio Silva’s run reflects some stark differences in that he went on an incredible 14-fight win streak as mentioned earlier. ‘Hannibal’ lost his last fight to James Krause and won’t be keen to begin a losing skid. On paper, he’ll be confident by looking at McGee’s downward trajectory and his skills certainly play against that of McGee’s.

Hannibal’ Silva is a monster on the ground with 64% of his overall wins coming via submission. He’s got a wide variety of tools to tap out his opponents, however, the RNC has been his go-to throughout his career. Court McGee will need to be on his P’s and Q’s when shooting into Silva and may be well advised to keep the fight standing.

Prediction: Claudio Silva to claim a split decision victory.
