Cheyanne Buys vs Gloria de Paula was bumped up to the co-main event at UFC Vegas 33 after Rani Yahya was forced to pull out of his bout as he tested positive for COVID-19. Buys made the most of the circumstances as she secured a stunning knockout win over Paula in just 60-seconds of the very first round.
Following the win, in her post-fight interview, she said, “Man it has been a long road to get here. It’s been a crazy fight camp for me. I left my home in Dallas and I just packed up. I left my home and everything in it I took my dogs and came here to be back with my team, they made me….. This feels great, I am broke as hell. I am so broke, my whole check is going to… I got a loan to get a house here.”

‘The Warrior Princess’ continued, “Man, I just wanted to do this. I can die tomorrow and I did not want to be known as the girl that got head locked in her last fight. I wanted to be known as the warrior princess.”

The former light heavyweight champion and all-time great, Jon Jones, took to Twitter to commend Buys on her attitude. He said, “Damn this warrior princess girl got some heart. She out here talking about dying. Now that’s passion”

Cheyanne Buys bounces back into the win column in style
Buys started the fight off well and was on the front foot immediately. She secured a takedown early in the first round itself and landed some good punches from on top. She then stepped back, allowing de Paula to get back to her feet. However, just as de Paula was getting back to her feet, Buys landed an inch-perfect head kick just as she was coming up.

Buys recognized that her opponent was hurt and pounced on her. She landed a barrage of punches from on top, and that was enough for the referee to step in and call the fight. With the win, Buys now bounced back into the win column after her loss in her prior outing.
