“Mood Swings” – Elina Svitolina Reveals How It Feels to Date an Athlete

The last couple of months have been rough for Elina Svitolina, not just on the court, but on the personal front as well. Earlier this month, Svitolina crashed out of the 2021 Dubai Tennis Championships in the opening round and lost to Victoria Azarenka in the quarterfinals of the Qatar Open.

On the personal front, Svitolina recently parted ways with her boyfriend and tennis star Gael Monfils. The couple started dating in 2019 and announced their split last month after two years of being together.

During their time together, the couple regularly entertained their fans through a joint Instagram account, G.E.M.S Life. The account was subsequently deleted post their split.

Elina Svitolina lays down the reality of dating an athlete

Recently, Svitolina shared a video on her Instagram account listing the challenges of dating an athlete. In the video, the Ukrainian tennis star makes irritated expressions as the struggles of dating an athlete pop up on the screen one by one.

The 2019 US Open semifinalist feels dating an athlete means rarely being home with them as well as the athlete being hungry and tired all the time. According to Svitolina, mood swings are another struggle because of the hard losses an athlete has to cope up with.

Interestingly, her ex-boyfriend Monfils commented on the video “100% hahaha,” relating to the hardships of dating an athlete. Despite the couple’s breakup, they remain on good terms and still support each other during tournaments.

Presently, Svitolina is competing at the 2021 Miami Open, where she has already won the opening two rounds. In the third round, Svitolina will face the two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova.

The two have faced each other nine times, with Kvitova boasting of a 7-2 advantage in their head-to-head meetings. They last played in the round-robin stage of the 2018 WTA Championships, a match Svitolina won in straight sets.
