Former World No. 1 Serena Williams remains a global icon, despite spending time away from tennis. Her popularity exceeds all levels with every move grabbing headlines regularly.

Recently, Will Smith starer ‘King Richard’ premiered, leaving those in attendance both stunned and awed by its insane storytelling. The movie is a biopic of Richard Williams, father of Serena, and Venus Williams. Moreover, the film unravels how Richard was instrumental in shaping two of the greatest tennis players in the history of the sport.

Serena Williams’ coach Patrick Mouratoglou was among those attending the screening. Like others, he too was stunned by the amazing portrayal of the three greats. Moreover, he was all praise for the movie, naming it as the best sporting story he has ever come across.

The 51-year-old coach stated, “I came in last night expecting to watch a great tennis story, but what I watched is the most incredible story I have ever witnessed in sports. Once-in-a-lifetime talents sometimes do come in pairs, but what Richard Williams has achieved stands apart.”

The Frenchman and Serena Williams have enjoyed a successful partnership

Patrick has been in the Williams camp for a long time. Together, they have been part of 10 singles Grand Slam titles. Certainly, they have one of the most successful partnerships in tennis. 

Speaking of tennis though, Serena remains on the sidelines ever since her Wimbledon exit. Following a mid-game injury, she pulled out of the tournament and thereby every competition that followed.

Initially ready to return to the US Open, fans were left disappointed with her withdrawal from there as well. However, she does intend to come back stronger next season. With all eyes on her, it will be interesting to see if she can finally lift her much-awaited 24th Grand Slam title in 2022.
