Spectacular Cartwheel Crash Leaves Fans Horrified at the Daytona International Speedway

The lifelong pursuit of racing is in itself a big risk. The odds of making it are quite slim given the monetary and other impediments. But even if you make it, the chances of you leaving behind a legacy of say Lewis Hamilton or Michael Schumacher is virtually none. Couple all of this with the inherent risks involved, to life and limb; why would anyone want to do that? But racing drivers are built differently. They feed off of this adrenaline. And this applies to both four and two-wheelers! And Daytona is the biggest test of character.

The Daytona International Speedway has been witness to some of the greatest moments in racing history. That being said, recently, it was also the venue of a horror crash. The track has an oval layout for NASCAR, but an endurance road layout as well. This layout has been used for many racing categories. And bikes have been strangers to this iconic circuit. Be that as it may, what the spectators witnessed at the circuit recently wasn’t for the faint of heart.

According to MotoAmerica, Gray Area Racing’s Alex Taylor took quite a tumble during @MissionFoodsUS Super Hooligan National Championship race two. Taylor’s KTM cartwheeled spectacularly, but he was able to walk away without any serious injuries.”

As said before, Daytona has been host to many devastating wrecks. But none would cut deeper than the one that happened on the 18th of February, 2001.

Dale Earnhardt Sr. was arguably the greatest-ever racing driver that NASCAR had seen. The 7x champion, nicknamed ‘The Intimidator’ was however taken away from us unfortunately in the aftermath of his horror crash during the 2001 Daytona 500.

After crashing into the wall at the very last lap, Earnhardt suffered a basilar skull fracture that would eventually claim his life. In the entire history of the sport, this is credited as the darkest day NASCAR ever saw. And it will always be attributed to the iconic Daytona International Speedway.
