Despite having an unprosperous year on the circuit, the Briton, Andy Murray was ranked second in the greatest BBC Sports Personality of all time. The Radio Times commemorated the 65th anniversary of the awards ceremony. The three-time Grand Slam champion, Murray has received the honour for the three times in his career. Also, the 31-year-old, Murray is the highest recipient of the award than any other athlete on this planet. He received the BBC Sports Personality of The Year in 2013, 2015 and 2016. He is one of the only four tennis players after Anne Jones (1969), Virginia Wade (1977) and Greg Rusedski (1997) to clinch this award. Moreover, Murray was on the top three in 2012.

The present World Number 260, Murray stayed out from the circuit for almost a year due to his prolonging hip-injury. He made a comeback to the circuit in this year June. Murray merely played six tournaments since his return. He reached the last eight of the Washington Open. However, he was forced to retired from the DC tournament due to his injury. Murray also stepped on the courts of the Flushing Meadows. The American major witnessed the reunion of the ‘Big Four’ after a prolonged wait. However, the Scotsman could prevail for a long time in the Big Apple City. And he eventually fell to the Spaniard, Fernando Verdasco in the round-of-64. With that loss, he concluded his tennis season 2018 and began his training for the year 2019. Regardless of his performance on the circuit this season, Murray’s sought his Christmas gift as the season ended.

“I’m feeling physically a little bit better every day,” Murray said “It’s obviously been a tough year with the hip injury and the surgery, but I’m getting closer. I’ve been practising already for a few days and I’ve still got a couple of months to get myself in the best shape. I’ll be doing my off-season training in Miami. I’ve spent four or five weeks over in Philadelphia doing a lot of off-court training. Then in December, I’m going to get to Miami and do three or four weeks of training in the hot conditions there and spending a lot more time in the hot conditions there to get myself ready.”
