“My Mom Misses Me More Than My Dad” – Sofia Kenin On Her Parents

Sofia Kenin enjoyed a splendid start to the year by winning the 2020 Australian Open. In a recent podcast by the Racquet Magazine, she talked about her family and the role they played in her tennis career.  Check it out.

Sofia Kenin spoke about her move to the United States. She said,

“I was born in Russia, my parents wanted to move to the US to give me the American dream. I moved when I was a baby so I don’t remember much about Russia.”

However, she did say she had videos of her making a snowman when she was young. She said that she is too embarrassed about those videos. I would be too if I had such videos made.

Sofia Kenin then spoke about how she got into tennis and the involvement of her parents. She said

” I was never into playing with toys, I was playing with balls and hitting with racquets so my dad decided to get me into tennis. My Mom was involved initially when I wasn’t traveling much. When things took off, she stayed at home and I travel with my dad everywhere.”

She was then asked about the toll it takes on her mom. Sofia said that her mom misses her and misses her more than her dad but she’s just happy for her supports her in her endeavor. She also said that she and her dad are a team and that she has a great relationship with him.

After her amazing start to 2020, I am sure Sofia Kenin’s parents will be very proud of her. However, they will be upset that their daughter couldn’t continue due to the coronavirus which suspended the WTA Tour.

After the coronavirus is contained, The WTA tour will resume. We can expect Sofia Kenin to win some more titles and her parents always supporting her.
