There are some gaming franchises that go beyond the limit of console generations. These franchises have been around ever since the first PlayStation and Xbox came out. Among the names on the list is Final Fantasy. Coming from the minds of Square Enix, Final Fantasy is one of the biggest RPGs in the world. With some of the biggest player bases in the gaming community, it looks like two of its games might just come together for a massive crossover.

Final Fantasy is set to bring together two games from the franchise

Despite a rocky release, Final Fantasy 16 was one of the major releases this summer. While part of the fanbase did not like the changes in combat, Final Fantasy 16 brought the next major installment in the franchise. Its director is set to bring a crossover of the game with Final Fantasy 14 very soon.

It all started when Final Fantasy 16 was released. At the time, Yoshida put out a tweet from Final Fantasy 14’s official account about a possible collaboration. Since he worked on Final Fantasy 14 as well, it made waves in the community. The running gag at the time was since Yoshida was the boss for both games, he needed to find time to have a meeting with himself.

While some forgot about the collab tease, Yoshida certainly did not. He decided to make the collaboration a real thing. While the exact details are not out, he hinted at more information coming later in the year. This could be one of the biggest crossovers in the franchise and certainly has Final Fantasy fans excited.

How would it work?

When it comes to the two games, they are near poles apart. Although both are RPGs, Final Fantasy 14 plays out as an online game. It has content added regularly. Final Fantasy 16, on the other hand, focuses solely on a story. Thus, fans could not seem to piece together how these titles fit in with each other.

One theory is that characters from Final Fantasy 16 such as Clive and Torgal could be added to Final Fantasy 14 in a content pack. This would make much more sense and make it easier as a project for Square Enix. However, nothing can be said with certainty. Only Naoki Yoshida knows for sure!
