It’s been close to 12 months since we have seen Naomi Osaka win a huge accolade in the game. After winning the Australian Open last year, she has not managed to register performances similar to that. Today, she crashed out of the Australian Open 2022 in the third round.
Osaka lost to American tennis player Amanda Anisimova. Given that she left The Happy Slam in the third round, she has surrendered a huge number of ranking points.

Naomi Osaka has had a dismal run since her Australian Open 2021 win
The four-time Grand Slam Champion’s performances over the past year have not been great. She withdrew before her second-round match at Roland Garros last year. Subsequently, she did not compete at the Wimbledon Championships and was unable to defend her title at the US Open. All these results have made a huge dent in her rankings.

On January 21, 2022, after Naomi Osaka won the opening set comfortably, it looked like she would not have an uphill task to make the last 16. However, Anisimova found her game, saved match points, and broke serve to take the second set. She maintained her rhythm in the decider and ran away with the tie-break to claim a massive upset.
It will be interesting to see Osaka’s next move. However, we wish her the best of luck for the remainder of the season.
