Naomi Osaka Hits Out at Tennis Fan for Embarrassing her Sister

Naomi Osaka has hit out at a tennis fan’s twitter account after a targeted poll about her sister. Mari Osaka(23) is Naomi’s elder sister. A Twitter user conducted an online poll at the expense of Stefanos Tsitsipas’ brother Petros Tsitsipas and Naomi Osaka’s Elder sister Mari Osaka.

The poll asked people which wildcard was more embarrassing, Mari Osaka’s 2019 Miami Open wildcard or Petros Tsitsipas’ Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships wildcard.

When Mari Osaka received her wildcard in 2019 at the Miami masters, it caused a lot of uproar. Naomi was the World No. 1 player in the world at the time. Her ranking played a part in this strange choice of wildcard according to many.

Mari was ranked World No. 338 at the time, with a highest career ranking of No. 280. Miami Open is one of nine Premier Mandatory series on the WTA Tour. 

It is a huge event on the Tour and attracts some of the biggest crowds apart from Grand Slams. And yet, it was Mari who got the entry instead of worthier candidates.

Stefanos Tsitsipas’ brother Petros received a wildcard entry into the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship Qualifiers this year. Petros is ranked well outside the 1200 mark which raises the question of Stefanos’ No. 6 rank being a factor.

All this resulted in the following poll. Naomi Osaka certainly saw the tweet by the handle named Krasimir. In fact, she even left a little reply of her own on the tweet. 

She hit back at the user Krasimir and told him never to mention her sister’s name again.

Perhaps seeing Mari ahead in the polls sparked the reply. But the 2018 US Open champion has since deleted the tweet.
