Naomi Osaka To Get More Special Treatment From Nike Than Serena

World No. 1, Naomi Osaka has been one of the most influential sports stars from the past two years. Naomi Osaka is rising as a brand in the field of tennis. The rookie grand slam champion secured the top ranking on the WTA circuit after her quarterfinals finish at the Italian Open 2019. 

According to an article in FT Magazine, Nike has decided to make a logo of Naomi Osaka. Nike will also give the Japanese, an opportunity to design her own match outfits. The apparel, accessories and sports equipment brand desires to start a Naomi Osaka streetwear line. Naomi Osaka had reportedly signed a $10 Million per year deal with Nike.

Naomi Osaka won her first major title at the US Open 2018 after defeating Serena Williams in the finals. However, her second grand slam title at the Australian Open 2019, made her the face of the next generation of women’s tennis.

Osaka’s elder sister Mari, who is also a WTA player said praising her sister, “The one word that comes to my mind is amazing. I’m really proud of her.”

Prior to Osaka, only Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Maria Sharapova were accorded with a special treatment from Nike. However, the 21-year-old is set to join the elite list of players having their own logo.

Even Serena Williams did not get an opportunity to build her own logo as she did not have a Nike streetwear clothing line. However, the American has her own brand now.

Naomi Osaka will be the top seed at the French Open 2019. She reached the third round of the Roland Garros 2018. Earlier, she had pulled out of the Italian Open 2019 due to a hand injury. However, she is ready to win the third consecutive grand slam title in Paris.

She said, “I think for me, I’m kind of comfortable with clay now. It’s just like I randomly slip. I feel like if I can get that under control, I’ll be good.”
