When it comes to her favorite sport apart from tennis, Osaka went Nick Kyrgios’ way in saying basketball. Figures, given the popularity of the sport in the USA, where she has lived for most of her life.

Back in January, the basketball community mourned the loss of one of the legendary figures of the sport in Kobe Bryant.

In 2016, Bryant discovered his love for tennis.

“I played a lot of tennis, and all of a sudden, I found myself addicted to it.”

Osaka, too, went through the grieving process after his death. The two certainly had a very close bond, with Kobe dropping in to watch her matches every now and then. He was like a mentor to Naomi.
