If a tennis professional declines to be present at the press, they are fined for the same by WTA or ATP and Naomi Osaka accepted the financial penalty for not attending the press.

The top-seed, Naomi Osaka apparently felt uncomfortable after her loss to the 28th seed, Yulia Putintseva and hence she decided to walk away without having a word with the press reporters. The post-press conferences are a significant part of the game.

“For me, it’s always a bit nerve-racking to play on grass. Especially since I haven’t been able to practice that many times here, it’s a bit tough to adjust,” Naomi Osaka said during her previous press conference. “I know that if I play well, then I’ll be No.1. But you kind of have to deserve the spot that you’re in and if I lose in the first round, I don’t deserve to be No. 1”.
With this loss, Osaka’s top-ranking is under a threat as the French Open 2019 champion, Ashleigh Barty is in close proximity to the apex position. The 23-year-old, Barty has reached the quarterfinals at Birmingham Nature Valley Classic and the second seed will be playing Venus Williams tomorrow.
