Here’s the thing, if you ever want to anger a NASCAR fan, just utter the word ‘electric’ and the job will be done. But then again, it’s more or less a reality toward which the sport could be headed. Now, this assumption is purely based on where the rest of the world and automotive companies are pivoting, but perhaps, an insider could have more insight into this, right? Perhaps someone like Chase Elliott?
Because he was actually asked about his thoughts on the future of NASCAR.

“A lot of things that NASCAR does on the weekend is not my decision. Frankly, I’m a part of the event and I’m just a competitor in the event. I think for me to sit here and act like I have this perfectly mapped out story for where NASCAR goes for the next 10 years, I’d be lying because that’s just not my call and my job right now is to perform at a high level behind the wheel,” Elliott described. “I don’t know where it’s headed, I really don’t.”

He added, “But for me right now, I got a great opportunity to go and do something I wanted to do since I was a little kid. We’ll see.”

Chase Elliott subtly calls out NASCAR on the rule changes in the last few years
Despite his answer on the future of the sport, when Elliott was asked about his thoughts on the rule changes in NASCAR in the past few years, he didn’t hold himself back from taking a subtle jibe.
“Some of the stuff I like, some of the stuff I don’t like. I tell a lot of people that I appreciate their willingness to try new things but one issue you might run into with NASCAR is, some of the stuff which doesn’t work, you’re gonna have to look in the mirror and say, ‘Hey this wasn’t good,'” said the Dawsonville-born driver.

“I think what scares me about some of those changes is they’re not gonna be able to look in the mirror and say, ‘This wasn’t good’ and we need to maybe do this a little differently or go back here or go back there.”
