While NASCAR has always encouraged ladies to come into the sport irrespective of nationality, race, or creed, a 17-year-old has taken the racing community by surprise. Winning the World of Outlaws Midget Racing Championship at the I-44 Riverside Speedway in Oklahoma, the young driver shattered all existing norms becoming the first female driver to win a national midget championship.

And just like that midget racers now have another feisty competitor to deal with as the news of the young gun making her mark in the popular racing series makes waves on the internet. NASCAR veteran, and avid dirt racing enthusiast, Kenny Wallace recently interviewed the young sensation as he welcomed her on his “Kenny conversation.”

Jade Avedisian, is now the talk of the town. The 17-year-old Toyota development driver has stunned the world with her performance. She shook up the racing world when he outpaced Zack Daum in the World of Outlaws Midget championship to become the first-ever female driver to do so.

In a sport dominated by men, the 17-year-old resolve to compete and her ability to weather the storm is a huge feat in itself, something that deserves praise. Well, that was what veteran dirt racing enthusiast, Kenny Wallace had in mind when he welcomed the prodigy to his show.

Subtly hinting at the rise in the level of competition, the veteran asked the youngster, “Talk to me about just a young lady in a man’s sport and you’re kicking their a**. I think it’s awesome. What do you think about all that?”

Avedisian responded, saying how great she feels seeing girls much younger than her are getting inspired to take up racing. She said, “Yeah, thank you. I do think its really cool and even just for myself, I feel like it’s the coolest when little girls come up to me and tell me that I inspired them to start racing and I feel like that’s obviously really cool that you know I’m helping out the younger girls just to get started racing but other than that I think honestly my goal is just to win races and lead laps and possible do the best I can.”

Avedisian reflects on her monumental win

Even though she finished 3rd in the season finale in Riverside Speedway, Avedisian racked up a majority of the points from her earlier races to outpoint Zack Daum for the title. Both Avedisian and Daum have 5 wins each. While Daum had the upper hand with 21 top-5 finishes compared to the 17-year-old’s 16, her clean race and consistent performance got a 59-point lead over Daum.

Reacting to her career-defining win, the young sensation according to NBC Sports said, “It means the world to me, not only to me, but my team.” She further shared her delight in making it into history books as the first female driver to ace a National Midget Championship. “I’m just so happy to do it for [Keith Kunz Motorsports], Mobil 1, Toyota Racing, so many people believe in me, and I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them. I’m truly grateful, and I’m excited to write my name in the history books.”
