No one expected Dale Earnhardt Jr to leave behind younger competitors in the Xfinity playoff race at Bristol. Nearing the age of 49, the veteran race qualified 15th in this one-off post-retirement racing avenue. To everyone’s amazement, the #88 Chevrolet was in the Top 10 in stage 1 and Top 5 in the second stage. Not only that, the seasoned racer led 47 laps in the race and would have grabbed the checkered flag if not for a frustrating development.

With 29 laps to go, Junior slowed down as smoke escaped from his vehicle. Turned out, his Chevy caught fire and Dale Jr was forced to jump out of the vehicle and out of reach of race victory. Considering this was going to be Junior’s first Top 5 performance in three years, it was even more disappointing for his fans. Nevertheless, soon after the incident, Dale Jr gave his fandom another reason to cheer.

The racer launched the sequel of his celebrated children’s book, ‘Buster’s Trip to Victory Lane’. Dale Jr posted a story clip of ‘Buster Gets Back on Track’ on his social media page. He debuted the first book at the end of last year in which a race car overcame obstacles and faced its fears. In an interview with Good Morning America, the New York Times bestselling author revealed his children as his source of inspiration. He added that ‘Buster’ was his legendary father, Dale Earnhardt’s nickname.

Naturally, the racing fandom was over the moon to receive this exciting news from their favorite racer.
