NASCAR in its early years was undergoing a lot of innovation and inventions. There were times when fans were not sure what they would see on the racetrack. An unusual cast of characters made their mark on the circuits while on one particular day, a monkey stole the show. In 1963, a monkey named Jocko took the responsibility of co-driver with Tim Flocko and surprisingly helped the driver win the race at Hickory N.C. Since then Jocko Flocko has been the only known co-driver in NASCAR history.
Fast forward to 2024, it’s not NASCAR but the Chili Bowl Nationals now in the news for their new mascot named Kevin the Kangaroo. Unfortunately, Kevin wasn’t able to help navigate Kaylee Bryson in her race at the Tulsa Expo Centre but instead has taken up a role as a lucky mascot. Moreover, Kaylee Bryson also had an interview with the baby Kangaroo and the interviewer himself could not resist but to be in awe of the cute Kangaroo.
Even Jade Avedisian is a fan of Kevin the Kangaroo!

USAC Silver Crown Series rookie of the year Kaylee Bryson will be competing at the Chili Bowl Nationals 2024 with legendary car owner Sammy Swindell. Piloting the No.91K Spike/Stanton SRx machine, Bryson will be eyeing to qualify for her third consecutive Chili Bowl feature. However, ahead of the preliminary race, Bryson has found the best lucky charm she possibly could think of and it’s not other than a kangaroo named Kevin.
Soon Kevin became the talk of the arena at the event and also featured in an interview by FloRacing. Kaylee Bryson introducing her new friend in the video said. “You know I saw this kangaroo walk around my pit area and I’ve never held a kangaroo and this is awesome, I love animals, so this is also exciting apart from racing. I’m really hoping Kevin gives me some good luck.”
It has to be noted that Kevin is not claimed by any car team or owner but he appeared to be out here spread good vibes. After hearing about a baby kangaroo present in the arena, Jade Avedisian too was eager to get a glimpse of Kevin and hold him. Taking to X, she enquired about the kangaroo, “Who has the kangaroo at the @cbnationals ?? I want to hold it 🤗”.

Starting this unusual wildlife list, we have a little bird who put a halt to the race at Talladega Super Speedway in April 2010. Having put out a caution flag, the birdie had to be escorted out of the racetrack by the NASCAR officials. Next, we had a groundhog who put out the official at work once again at the Michigan International Speedway in June 2016. The official tried putting an end to the chase using the bucket but the groundhog always seemed to have an edge in escaping!
The 1989 NASCAR race at Pocono had to be put to a halt as a rabbit made its way onto the racetrack. Interestingly, the rabbit took a halt under a banner of Winston Cup that had an eagle clawing out towards the little fella. After running laps in a chase, the little bunny finally gave up and was rescued by a NASCAR official who celebrated the act as if he had won the race! The next one on the list shares the same family tree as the Pocono bunny, as in 2015, another rabbit caused a NASCAR race to a stop at Bristol Motor Speedway. This time around, the rabbit didn’t give in. In fact, after a long cat-and-mouse race, the animal found its way home.
