Pruett unleashes TSR’s thunder, reigniting championship dreams

The NHRA Midwest Nationals witnessed the TSR team’s thunderous presence in a pivotal round in the “Countdown to the Championship.” Matt Hagan was fully aware that a victory on Sunday would reignite his quest for a fourth NHRA World title. Meanwhile, Leah Pruett embarked on a similar journey, securing the runner-up position at the World Wide Technology Raceway at Madison, just falling short of Clay Millican’s win, which would have granted Stewart a nitro double victory.

Leah Pruett now stands as the most formidable contender to Doug Kalitta in the NHRA’s Countdown to the Championship, both eyeing the final three races of the season. Positioned second in the Top Fuel standings, just 47 points adrift of the leader, she’s reached her highest standing since 2020.

The team expressed their regret that Stewart was unable to compete due to this violation and also clarified that Tony had no say in the purchase of parts. “Prior to Tony [Stewart’s] Round 1 of eliminations at the Carolina Nationals, NHRA confiscated the magnetos on Tony’s Top Alcohol dragster. It was brought to our attention that the magnetos, which we had purchased used from another team, were found to not be within NHRA’s tolerance. The part had been unknowingly modified prior to us purchasing it. The part is not required to be certified in our Top Alcohol category.” With a few races remaining until the grand finale, the stage is set to witness what remarkable feats this formidable trio will accomplish.
