Alex Bowman has not enjoyed such a great 2020 season so far, despite a win in California. He has been finishing up and down the order since that victory, with his highest finish being 2nd at Darlington. Recently, he spoke to Fox Sports ahead of the race weekend and hoped for a decent run.

He had a theory behind why he was unable to perform to his own expectations. Bowman suggested that weather conditions and tyres played a role in his wayward form.

He said, “Our race car got really unhappy with it got hot and slick through the summer months. We went to race tracks that we thought we were going to dominate, like Homestead and Kansas.”

What else did Alex Bowman say?

For him, it was all the more disappointing, especially since they had a strong start to the season. He mentioned the race in Kansas where he finished 8th, but spent most of the race down in 25th. Alex Bowman also confessed that he was fighting the car all race because it was so loose and he tried his hardest not to crash.

On the bright side, he was glad that the team managed to keep calm and continue working together. As a result, all of them were able to turn their fortunes around in the past couple of race weekends.

Alex Bowman cited the example of Dover, where he did not do so well in the first race, after sustaining damage. However, in the second race, he had a great run and managed to finish 5th fastest.

What made the feat all the more amazing was the fact that Bowman was using a backup car in race 2. He concluded, “To be that strong in a backup car was really good and we are pointed in the right direction to start the playoffs”
