Alex Bowman, for the first time in his NASCAR Cup Series career, has managed a position in the Round of 8 of the playoffs. He finished in the sixth and fourth place in the first two stages and ended the race with a majestic third-place finish.
Speaking post-race with mixed feelings about the finish, Bowman said, “Happy and sad, a little bit bummed we lost points. A little bummed Joey won. That makes my life harder over the next couple weeks. I feel like we had a really good day. I’m really proud of my race team.”

Brushing off talks of what people felt of his chances in the playoffs, Bowman added, “A lot of people said we were going to go out early in the Playoffs. We’re still here fighting. We’re still bringing really fast cars to the racetrack each and every week.”

Alex Bowman and his stellar statistics going into Kansas
Albeit after a mixed response post-race, Alex Bowman was quite clear in stating that making the Round of 8 playoffs was a top priority for him and his team.
Coming into the Kansas race, Bowman had some serious numbers to show. A total tally of 209 points in NASCAR Cup Series playoffs – fourth-highest in all, and the fifth-best average running position of 10.2.
The Hendrick Motorsports driver had 4 top-10 finishes. He was only third amongst the drivers with the number of top 10s in this season’s playoffs.

Averaging 26 points per race for the first 24 races of the season only speaks of his consistency. Taking into consideration the eight events prior to Kansas, Bowman had accumulated 34 points resulting in an average finish dip from 17.9 to 8.8.

With a win in Fontana, Alex Bowman had booked for himself the playoff berth. Ever since the post-pandemic return, his consistency has not been the same. The confidence and the numbers he has won’t count for anything if the next two races don’t see him securing a berth in the Championship 4.
