As the Circuit of the Americas race this weekend came to a close, Daniel Suarez, frustrated with Alex Bowman’s driving, tracked him down on the cool-down lap and made contact with his car. The incident stemmed from an earlier collision between Bowman and Suarez, which saw the latter’s chances of finishing in the top five disappear.

In a post-race interview, Alex Bowman, though finishing 3rd at the end of the race, expressed his frustration with the level of contact in the race.

Following his 27th-place finish in the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix held at the Circuit of Americas on Sunday, Daniel Suarez seemed to have succumbed to his frustrations. Witnessed speeding down pit road, Suarez deliberately bumped his teammate Ross Chastain out of his way to get behind Alex Bowman. He then proceeded to tap Bowman’s bumper multiple times to express his discontent. However, the altercation did not end there as they were seen arguing later on.

Later, during a post-race interview, Bowman admittedly said, “It’s so dumb how we have to race each other. It’s not okay by any means, but it’s what we do.

“It is somewhat embarrassing, but at some point, we’re here to run for your sponsors. If it’s a matter of losing 10 spots, you can’t be the one clean guy.”

While his comments may have been relatable and honest to some fans, others were quick to remind him of his actions during the race and reveal a larger picture.

One fan pointed out, “Pretty sure he’s the one that sent the 99 into the 19 but ok,” while another said, “Mate literally plowed the shit outta the 99 but go off I guess.” These comments refer to the mid-race altercation between Bowman and Suarez, which resulted in Bowman spinning out Suarez’s #99 car.

While Bowman initially claimed that he was hit from behind and had no choice but to make contact with Suarez, video footage later showed that Bowman had initiated the incident.

The entire altercation originated from an incident during overtime towards the end of the race. As the field navigated around the first turn of the track, Bowman collided with Suarez, causing Chase Briscoe to collide with Chastain, who then hit Bowman, resulting in a chain reaction that caused Suarez to fall behind the rest of the pack. As a consequence, Suarez crashed into Martin Truex Jr, causing him to spin out and finish in 17th place. Bowman, on the other hand, finished third, trailing Tyler Reddick and Kyle Busch.
