The NASCAR Cup Series playoff Round of 12 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday ended with yet another Chase Elliott win. His fourth consecutive victory on a road course.

While he is making such a course setting his own, Chase is only second best to NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon, who has the longest streak in NASCAR history, with six straight wins at road courses.

It was a comeback of sorts for Elliott after a loose wheel forced him to the back. He soon regained control of a restart that saw him go past the Toyotas of Erik Jones and Kyle Busch, heading into the final 20 laps of the race.

Come Sunday, October 18, and the action shifts to Kansas Speedway. The very venue where the No. 9 ended 12th at the first race this year. While Elliott knows he has to better that in the Round of 8, he said, “12th certainly isn’t going to cut it. We’ve been working tirelessly to try to improve. Kansas has historically been a decent track for us. We struggled there the first race this year. We know we got to be better. Looking forward to the challenge.

Coming off a win at the Roval, coupled with a strong history in the playoffs, Elliott insisted it won’t be enough to make it to the Championship race.

He said, “We made the Round of 8 the last couple years. That’s a great thing. That’s a great achievement. But we always want more. I think we’re very capable of it.

“We see the same people make the Final 4 every year. I think when we’re at our best, we run with those guys. I think we’ve proved that in the past. We just have to be a little more consistent, eliminate those bad racetracks, I think we can make some noise,” he expressed.

While it may be too early to predict a Championship 4 winner just now, it has to be borne in mind that the defending champion, Kyle Busch, has been eliminated from contention from this season’s title, assuring the fans of one thing – a new winner this Cup Series.
