NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Josh Williams recently found himself in hot water after parking his car on the front stretch of the track during Atlanta’s Xfinity race. It was only natural for his actions to provoke the ire of NASCAR officials. While there has been a lot of talk about whether Williams should be suspended for his actions, there are those who feel that suspension is too harsh of a punishment.

One such person is Dale Earnhardt Jr‘s spotter, TJ Majors.

In a recent episode of ‘Door Bumper Clear’, TJ Majors voiced his opinion when asked if he thinks Josh should be suspended. He said, “I don’t feel like he should be suspended. I just don’t think that’s a suspension-worthy offense, that’s all.”

While he acknowledged that the incident had upset some people, he didn’t feel that it warranted such a severe punishment. And Majors isn’t the only one who feels this way.

NASCAR Cup star Denny Hamlin came to Williams’ defense on Twitter, offering to pay his fine, which is quite humorous as he himself owes NASCAR some $50k for his penalty.

It seems that many fans and drivers alike were surprised by Williams’ actions, but not many called for his suspension.

Majors further added that he doesn’t have any idea if Williams will be suspended and it’s a 50-50 situation. With him being a veteran of the sport, he added “it’s like the first time ever that somethin’s happened like that at the spotter head.”

So what exactly happened that has caused such a stir around Josh Williams?

Williams was involved in an early incident during the Xfinity Series race and suffered damage to his car’s right-front fender. The team attempted to repair the car, but the tape flew off as he exited the pits, leading to yet another caution flag. NASCAR officials then ordered Williams to go to the garage for ‘extending the caution’, effectively ending his race.

Not happy with NASCAR’s decision, he then parked the car on the start/finish line, walked across the infield and pit road, waving to the crowd. After being checked and released from the infield care center, he was summoned to meet with race officials along with his crew chief and team owner.

While Williams’ actions may have been unusual, it’s clear that not everyone is in agreement about what his punishment should be. Some have even taken to social media to show their support for him. As for what will happen next, we’ll have to wait and see if any further action is taken by NASCAR officials.
