Every NASCAR driver has experienced embarrassing moments in their careers. Austin Cindric is not immune to this, and it got quite humiliating for the driver. Recently, Cindric talked about his maiden short track racing experience and confessed that it was his funniest.

He said, “I was getting told how to go out on the race track, what to do and how to drive the car. Finally I got told, ‘make sure you turn left on the race track’. Just kind of as a joke and I took it very literally. I turned left onto the race track and started making laps backwards. Did about five laps before they waved me off and told me I was actually going backwards. So my first laps around the Roval was going the wrong way.”

Austin Cindric has grown as a driver since then

Obviously, the driver has improved his race craft a lot since that awkward moment. The 23-year-old has since become the Xfinity Series champion in 2020 and has graduated to the Cup Series for the 2022 season. He scored big when he landed the Team Penske #2 seat. In essence, he is taking over the seat that Brad Keselowski vacated in favor of the Roush Fenway #6 seat.

Since the Team Penske outfit is regarded as one of the top teams, Cindric should be right in the mix for a win or two.

Admittedly, it will be a little farfetched to expect a championship challenge in his rookie season. However, the driver will be eager to impress his new team and earn his stripes. On the bright side, he has experienced teammates like Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney. So, he will be keen to learn from the two of them and be able to keep up.
