The battle for the Cup Series title is heating up every single weekend. With only one race left in the round of 12, things are as tense as ever, even among teammates. Throughout the regular season, we have seen drivers help each other in a lot of situations. Teams with the same engine manufacturer work together as well. But at the end of the day, only one driver can become a Cup Series driver. And that is when it becomes everyone for themselves.

Joe Gibbs Racing title challengers Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. recently shared a lighthearted moment, but it could be a pre-cursor for things to come. If that is the case, Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson should also watch out. Hamlin and Larson had a moment earlier this season, and things were pretty tense between the two title contenders back then.

All four Joe Gibbs Racing drivers were part of a fan interaction session ahead of the crucial race at the Charlotte Roval. What followed might not be seen as a lot by most people, but given recent history, it might be cause for concern. Speaking to the three JGR playoff drivers, the event host posed the question, “Who’s most likely to put you into the wall for a championship?”

It did not take Martin Truex Jr. long to point toward the man sitting on his left, Denny Hamlin. It did not even take the #11 driver long to point toward himself either. The 42-year-old’s race craft has been near-impeccable so far in the playoffs. But he does have a reputation for putting his opponents in the wall. Just ask Kyle Larson. Earlier this season, Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson were racing side-by-side after a late restart at Pocono.

As the two drivers fought for the lead, the #11 pulled a cheeky move as he moved to the outside of the track, where the #5 was. The two cars made contact at high speed, and Kyle Larson was sent into the wall. Luckily, the HMS man did not sustain any serious damage, but he was annoyed by the move. So when Justin Haley crashed and the caution had come out, Kyle Larson deliberately pushed Denny Hamlin into the wall under the yellow flag.

Whether fans like him or not, Denny Hamlin has once again earned his way into the title picture. The 42-year-old driver is hell-bent on winning his first Cup Series championship. Given his form, there are many who believe that he can get the job done, including one of the most prominent NASCAR insiders today, Kyle Petty.

According to the former Cup Series driver, Kyle Petty, 2023 seems like Denny Hamlin’s year. It seems that the #11 team can do no wrong. And Petty has a very good point.

“When it’s your year, it’s your year and this appears to be Denny’s year because of these little things we’re watching right now. Right now, Denny is on a high. They can do nothing wrong, they can speed on the pit road, they can do whatever they want to do and they’re going to salvage a top five,” the seven-time owner’s championship winner said.
