They say money can buy anything, even happiness, which, to some extent, is true. But then there are sports that present a pretty solid counter-argument to that theory. And NASCAR is no different.

Look no further than the current top teams in the sport, be it Hendrick Motorsports, Richard Childress Racing, or Team Penske. All of them had humble beginnings.
It was truly their decades and decades of hard work and perseverance that led them to how they’re recognized now, as giants in the motorsports world.

Perhaps this could also be the career trajectory of The Money Team Racing, a team co-owned by nearly half a billion-worth man, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Willy Auchmoody.
TMT Racing took part in four races in 2022, namely Daytona 500, COTA, Charlotte, and the ROVAL. But for the future, they’re looking to grow and add more spots on the calendar to their name.

This, for Mayweather’s team, will certainly be not an easy task considering their low foothold in the sport.
But as things are now, and as they expect things to be, they have a pretty solid chance of accomplishing their goals, particularly with someone like Conor Daly as their A Driver.

Crew chief who helped Danica Patrick, Dale Jr, has a good report on Conor Daly
Tony Eury Jr, the legendary crew chief who has worked with names such as Dale Earnhardt Jr, and Danica Patrick in his career, had a pretty high assessment of Mayweather’s driver according to co-owner Auchmoody.

“When the crew chief makes a comment, that we could build something around this kid, especially a crew chief that has his background,” he said of Daly.
“He helped Danica [Patrick] get into NASCAR, he was the first crew chief she had when she ran in NASCAR, and he loved working with her, and he feels he could take the knowledge that he learned from her transition from IndyCar to NASCAR, and do the same thing with Conor.”

Daly was always destined for NASCAR according to his new boss
Conor Daly, while still not that familiar a name in NASCAR circles, is a pretty well-known figure in open-wheel racing. Daly has taken part in the NTT INDYCAR Series along with a stint over in Europe in F1’s junior categories.

But if his new boss, Auchmoody, is to be believed, Daly’s calling, or rather, his personality’s calling, was always, always meant to be in the country’s premier stock car racing series.
“I’ve always been a fan of Conor; I’ve always felt that he was a NASCAR driver living in an IndyCar world. It’s just his attitude, his demeanor,” Auchmoody said according to Toby Christie.

“He’s – I don’t want to say a ‘bad boy’ in IndyCar, but he definitely doesn’t fit the mold over there as much as he fits the mold in NASCAR.”

Going forward, it’s worth reflecting back on the ‘money can buy anything’ theory. Because for TMT Racing, money isn’t a problem, or certainly not as big a problem as other hopeful teams in their infancy, unsure of whether to go full throttle on ovals in a stock car or not.
What the fate of this team in this sport turns out to be, only time will tell.
Still, as things stand now, they have the perfect pedigree, at least in this off-season, in their thoughts and words on paper and bank balances.
