The bright lights of Las Vegas beckon. While the city is known for its unexpected turns of fortune, the upcoming NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs Round of 8 promises to be a roller-coaster in its own right. With the recent Playoff exit of Brad Keselowski still fresh, RFK Racing’s Chris Buescher emerges from the shadows, ready to crash the party of Joe Gibbs Team and Rick Hendricks’s crew.

In the latest episode of NASCAR on NBC Live, the panel delved deep into the odds and favorites for the upcoming races. Jeff Strriegle shared his insights on the likely frontrunners. While many familiar names popped up, it was Chris Buescher who caught everyone’s attention.

The Round of 8, kicking off at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, sees the blending of veteran skill and young zeal. Among the top contenders, Chris Buescher, making his debut in this round, stands out. While he’s had a standout year with three victories, the racing circuit is abuzz about whether he can surprise the experts in Sin City.

Jeff Striegle stated in the podcast, “When I look at the four above the cut line and Byron, Hamlin, and Larson, I really feel good about where they’re at and I really feel good about where they’re going. I really think that those are going to be the three drivers that we will be talking about when we get to Phoenix.”

“I think the oddball or the odd man out is position number four. Right now, Truex has it. Is he ready to make a run, close out 2023, and race for a championship? I’m not sure I’m ready to just put him in there.”

Despite the spotlight on Chris Buescher, the other contenders aren’t to be underestimated. With past champions like Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Larson in the mix, the competition is fierce. Add to that the raw energy of younger drivers, with William Byron leading the pack at a spry 25, and you’ve got a recipe for unpredictable racing drama.

The path to the Championship 4 isn’t straightforward. Drivers like Denny Hamlin and Christopher Bell have faced recent hiccups. Hamlin’s inability to progress last year is still a sore point. At the same time, Bell, despite a walk-off victory at Martinsville, carries the weight of just one win this season.

Strigle further added, “We know Bell is going to be strong. We know that Chris Buescher, I think Buescher is the biggest dark horse out there. As much as you bring up Truex, can he advance? I look at Chris Buescher as the forgotten one in this group of eight.”

“We better not forget about Chris Buescher because he is going to be a factor when we get to Las Vegas. That’s for sure. I think that’s his opportunity race right there. At least that’s my thought going in.”
