Legendary FOX Broadcaster, Mike Joy, was recently asked to drop a certain element from his commentary by a NASCAR fan on Twitter, something he refused. That element being the mention of ‘the Polish Victory Lap,’ for which he was supported by Brad Keselowski as well.

This term was something that was made famous by the 1992 NASCAR Cup champion, Alan Kulwicki.

So when Joy was asked to drop the term, he relented and insisted he won’t simply because he’s honoring the late Polish-American driver.

“Thanks, but no. Alan Kulwicki was very proud of his heritage. It was my great honor to present him for induction to the Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame, where they enjoyed hearing of his creation of the ‘Polish Victory Lap’. Alan named it that. I’m just honoring his memory,” Joy replied.

This led to another NASCAR driver of Polish origin, Brad Keselowski, to support Joy’s insistence on keeping Kulwicki’s memory alive.

The 2012 Cup champion replied, “Thank you Mike. My family has always felt the same way. Calling it a Polish victory lap was always a point of recognition.”

“Hope that name never goes away.”

Brad Keselowski relates to Alan Kulwicki

After winning his Cup championship in 2012, Brad Keselowski was presented with a special award by the National Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame.

Keselowski received the “Excellence In Sports Award.”

In his speech, the former Team Penske driver noted the fact that the National Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame had also inducted Alan Kulwicki, who won the highest form of racing in NASCAR in a team which he also owned.

“Alan had such an interesting story,” Keselowski said of Kulwicki. “He was definitely known for doing things his own way. Maybe it’s a Polish gene because I think I do the same.”
