What’s going wrong at the RFK Racing camp? After 11 races since the start of the season, Brad Keselowski and Chris Buescher haven’t been firing on all cylinders. Though all Ford teams are struggling to find their winning groove, RFK Racing is lagging behind even their fellow Ford teams in terms of sheer speed.

It is indeed hard to argue that Ford Mustangs aren’t the quickest on single-lap qualifying runs. We have seen Joey Logano and Michael McDowell grab the pole wins early in the season. Moreover, for this weekend’s race at Kansas, the four Mustangs made it through to the final round, yet RFK Racing was nowhere to be seen. This has just been the theme for the No. 6 team. And while there have been a few good runs to cheer for this season, Keselowski stressed how this poor run is hampering the team’s progress.

If we are to look at the No. 6 car’s run so far in qualifying rounds, it is hard to single out a decent result. They just haven’t caught on to the trend that the Team Penske or SHR cars have. His best starting position came at Daytona, where he suffered a DNF finish. In his last three attempts, he’s failed to make it past Row 8. Visibly distressed, the veteran driver was unapologetic in speaking about the team’s inability ahead of the Kansas race.

“I know we just haven’t had any speed in qualifying all year, it’s been frustrating. Didn’t think our race run was that far off but not as fast as we want to be in a race, but way off in qualifying.” Keselowski said in an interview with Frontstretch. It’s also not the lack of effort or trying different things that have been an issue for the team. Despite experimentation with the two cars, they are yet to crack the code to find speed.

“We’re trying things it ain’t for a lack of trying. Just haven’t found any speed in qualifying. We’ve been trying different things to try to get both of our cars where they can qualify better, and we just, we’re not there. We haven’t qualified well all year, we got to figure that out,” the 40-year-old added.

However, the good news for Brad Keselowski is that his car has been in contention for the win during the races. Had it not been for the wreck in the last lap at Talladega, he could have had his first win since 2021. But looking at the schedule ahead, there’s hope for the No. 6 team to get their breakthrough result in 2024.

The Michigan native is on the bubble in terms of drivers making it into the playoffs. Holding the 16th spot, a win could essentially ensure his entry in the final 16, without having to rely on points. While the No. 6 car has come agonizingly close to being in the victory lane more than a couple of times, the upcoming events might prove decisive for them in getting the victory.

Darlington and the upcoming events are important for the driver, given how well he has run at those venues. “Well, I think here in Kansas and then three weeks to follow. Maybe with the exception of the All-Star race are important weeks for us. We did good at those tracks last year, and we scored a lot of points and contended for win in probably all of them. So the same expectations going back and would love to capitalize on.” The RFK star concluded.

Luck hasn’t been much of a help for Keselowski and RFK Racing, and while they’ve shown race speed, they still have a lot of work to do. Hopefully, they will manage to turn the corner this season before it is too late.
