In a recent conversation, Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing driver Brad Keselowski recounted some interesting stories. Among them, he spoke about an encounter with 3-time Super Bowl champion, Michael Irvin. This happened at the Texas Motor Speedway during a ride-along in a two-seater car. In all honesty, Irvin was renowned for being fearless on the football pitch. Needless to say, Keselowski decided to put that to the test and gave him the ride of his life.

He said, “So I take Michael for a lap around the race track, and we did about two laps where he rode on the right side. Which is probably like a minute, a minute-ten of actual on-track time. When we pulled in, I could kind of unstrap and look over at him, and I give him the thumbs up, you OK? Gave me the I’m not OK look like kind of woozy. He got out and needed a minute to recover. Once he had recovered, it was pretty obvious to me what happened. This is the re-occurring theme to being a race car driver that makes it difficult.”

Of course, Keselowski was sympathetic towards the wide receiver. He noted that in the face of fear, most people have the same reaction; their heart rate increases and they experience a fight or flight response. In addition to these, people have a tendency to hold their breath.

He insisted that no matter how strong people are, it is a case of being mentally and physically strong. He also revealed that if people try to hold their breath for too long, they risk losing energy. That would put them at risk of passing out, which nearly happened to Michael Irvin. Later on, Keselowski confessed that he hoped that Irvin does not ‘beat him up’ for sharing the story.
