Like father, like son! Brexton Busch has won a Beginner Box Track championship in each of his last three development years. Dad, Kyle Busch has won a race in every single full-time season running in NASCAR’s premier division. Now, Rowdy explains how his elder son’s budding racing career is helping him mellow into his own, as fatherhood now plays a big role for 38-year-old Kyle Busch, especially as a respite from the “cutthroat” nature of the world’s premier stock car racing competition.

Kyle Busch finds joy in his son’s budding racing career

Before making another attempt at his first victory of the season on Texas Motor Speedway this Sunday, Busch got on the most recent episode of ‘Kenny Conversation’ with Kenny Wallace to discuss exactly “what has changed” for the two-time champ, who has been having “so much fun” with the media in recent regards.

He elaborates, “I don’t know… I guess I hate to say it because I don’t want to say it, because I don’t want to admit to it. But you’re in your later years of your career right? I guess you know trying to have a little bit of fun even though sometimes the results aren’t indicative of having much fun, you know…”

Nevertheless, noting a recent instance where Busch had not been able to maintain his newfound vigor, he interestingly stated, “Last week I was not in a good mood at Richmond because Brexton was racing and he was racing quarter midgets, and he’s not great at quarter midgets. He doesn’t like them. I don’t like them, and so he was struggling. So I wasn’t in the best of moods.

Regardless, “I made the best of the media session,” continued Rowdy. “But sometimes when I’m able to go to these media availabilities or just be at the racetrack, you know everybody’s asking me, ‘Well, how’s Brexton doing?’ ‘What’s he racing this weekend?’ And you know, it just, it puts a smile on my face; it makes me happy to just know that people are paying attention to him… and how good he is, and how his development is coming along,” explained Brexton’s NASCAR champion father. 

Making the plausible comparison, Kyle Busch then talked about how his current dynamics help him “take the edge off” considering the demands of the ruthless NASCAR landscape. “Man, it was so cutthroat for me because we’re in a performance-based business, right? So, if you’re not performing and you’re not doing your job that you need to be doing, I always thought, ‘Man I’m on the coat hanger of getting let go here… That just pushed me… I’ve got a great opportunity right now with RCR, and Brexton is doing really good, so I am just being a little happier these days.”

However, already showing bright shades of the ‘Rowdy’ bloodline, NASCAR fans may very soon be able to witness the young racer enthrall the third generation of NASCAR fans cheering for the iconic Busch name.

In his short, almost five-year-long racing career, Brexton has won more than thirty races, in eight different states across Outlaw Karts, Bandoleros, Junior Sprints, and Restricted Micro classes. However, as Kyle Busch earlier stated, his son’s most recent outing in a quarter-midget resulted in an average P21 DNF at the 5th Annual Carolina Clash organized by the North Carolina Quarter Midget Association.

On the other hand, KFB himself will be looking for better displays heading to the Lone Star, with only two top-10 finishes to show in eight races run so far for his new team, Richard Childress Racing. Last week at Martinsville ended in a P16 finish for Busch in the middle of the pack. RCR absolutely needs to help KFB improve his sophomore-year outings. After all, by this time last year, he had already secured a win and was on track for another at Talladega.

With a new look and a newer perspective, NASCAR’s former ‘bad guy’ seems to be transitioning exactly as a true champion would. And as Brexton and his younger sister Lennix Kay act as potential beacons of hope for future Rowdy fans worldwide, Kyle Busch can now certainly relax as he makes an everlasting mark through each passing day on the steep legacy of the NASCAR record books.
