Bubba Wallace has always been a controversial figure, be it for his on-track antics or off-track stands. For someone who has always been in the limelight, one can feel the weight of expectations and the constant pressure of eyes looking at him. Wallace, perhaps suffering from the pressure now, wants him to be left alone and stay away from the limelight as he started off another year on a positive note.

In a recent interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Bubba Wallace shed light on how he was tired of all the attention he was receiving both positively and negatively. The controversies went to such an extent that he often received hate because of it. As a result, Wallace came with a request for everyone, mainly fans in general, after being subjected to controversy and scrutiny for years.
“I’ve always said at the start of every year I want to be out of the headlines,” Wallace said. “I always find myself in it, and I’m assuming that’s just my personality. I say one thing, and it takes off, or I do one thing, and it takes off, so you know I’ve just been trying to kind of bid on everything that we talked about in the off-season of what we need to do better comes down to managing races.”
Following this, the #23 driver mentioned how he started off the 2026 season positively and has yet to face any wreck or DNF. Thanks to this consistency, he is currently in second place in the Drivers’ Standings, despite not winning any race.
“I would take a 15th-place car and either finish 15th or a little bit worse right and make costly mistakes on the racetrack to have a DNF. We had nine DNFs last year and so just kind of cleaning up the things that we wanted to has just been the start of it and having fast race cars, it goes with it as well and it allows you to just focus on that stuff a little bit easier and let all the outside stuff kind of set on its place,” he further added.
Five races into the season, @BubbaWallace hasn’t finished worse than 11th & sits 2nd in the Cup Series points standings.

Notably, Bubba Wallace has seen a sharp rise in his consistency. At Daytona, he started the race from 27th place but finished in 10th. In Atlanta, he started in ninth place, but came home in eighth.
In fact, his consistency continued at COTA, where he started from 24th, but made a brilliant comeback to finish in 11th. In the next two races and Phoenix, at Las Vegas, Wallace finished in sixth and ninth places, wrapping up a super consistent first five races of the season.
While Wallace has had a formidable start to his season, one can look back at his conversation with Michael Jordan days before the Daytona 500, which one can say, perhaps, shaped the season so far.
Bubba Wallace’s interaction with Michael Jordan shared his season?
Ahead of the Daytona 500 this year, Bubba Wallace had a close interaction with Michael Jordan, his team’s co-owner. Speaking about their interaction at the golf course, Wallace told Rich Jones of Daily Express U.S.
“We had a good leadership meeting a couple of weeks ago. He’s fired up, it’s a new season, it’s a clean slate, and we’re ready to go get it. We’ve both been fans of the sport; he’s been a fan longer than I have, but we understand that what it takes to be successful and to win at this level is super hard, but when you have the right people surrounding you, then the sky’s the limit. So, put it all together.”
Apparently, Jordan has been a regular face at the Cup Series races this season. From Daytona to Phoenix, the NBA legend was present at all the races, as he saw Tyler Reddick claim three back-to-back wins to create a NASCAR record.
While Jordan was happy to see Reddick get back to winning ways and create a record, he would also like Bubba Wallace to win a few races this season, after all, the latter drives with his number.
